Welcome to Victoria’s Barre Studio!

Studio Fitness is Vancouver Island’s first Barre Studio; located inside Quadra Sports & Fitness, next to the Keg on Quadra.

If you haven’t already heard about Barre classes, they are the most popular trend in fitness because they are effective and definately not boring! Women, including celebrities, find the classes successful in providing results – designed to give you a strong, sleek, streamlined dancer-like physique. While all barre workouts differ slightly in structure, all classes incorporate exercises done at a ballet barre combined with elements of ballet, Pilates, and yoga. Barre exercises are full of variety and rely mainly upon one’s bodyweight for resistance with moves that challenge your core stability and balance.

Most barre enthusiasts rave about the physical benefits of the workout. With consistency, participants find that their bodies become slimmer and more “chiseled.” Others simply get addicted to the fun dance inspired workouts set to great music and simple choreography. While some barre workouts will contain a cardio component, they are more about muscle toning. Granted, no workout program will provide these stellar results if you’re not also watching your diet.

When you step into a Barre class at Studio Fitness, you will find that the room is a large open space mirrors and barres fixed to the long walls on either side of the room. There is wood flooring and we recommend you wear special ‘grip’ socks for hygenic reasons. Although they are not mandatory, the socks can also help people engage more muscles of the leg during the exercises. There will be props of some variety used in class such as light hand weights, a small pilates ball, stretch bands, and straps used as workout tools. Classes are just under an hour long and include a 5-10 minute warm up, 10-15 minutes of light weights (upper body), 20-30 minutes of barre exercises (mostly lower body), 10 minutes of floor work that includes abdominals and lower body exercises, ending with a cool down and final stretches.

While there may be an introductory classes for beginner students, the Barre classes are considered multi-level and are appropriate for a variety of fitness levels and body sizes. Qualified barre instructors are able to properly teach a multi-level class and provide modifications for beginners, as well as advanced progressions when necessary to ensure a safe, effective and appropriate workout for you.
